Account Optional

Close Enough works without an account for basic features. Optional Lotlsoft accounts unlock additional features like subscriptions, saved data, and personalized reports.

What We Store

When you use Close Enough, we store:

• Email Address - Your email address is used for account login via magic links. We send a one-time login link to your email instead of using passwords.
• User Id - A unique internal identifier assigned to your account. Used to link your saved addresses, search history, reports, and purchases to your account.
• Device Location - The mobile app has an optional 'Use my location' button that accesses your device's GPS to find nearby addresses. Location is only accessed when you tap this button and is immediately converted to an address - we do not store or track your location.
• Purchase History - Records of Deep Report purchases, credit pack purchases, and Pro subscription status. Used to grant access to purchased content and manage your subscription.
• Search History - Your recent address searches for quick access (requires account, max 8 addresses, auto-managed). Older searches are automatically removed when you search new addresses.
• Product Interaction - Anonymous analytics about how you use the app, such as which pages you visit and features you use. This helps us improve the app. Collected via Lotl Observe.
• Crash Data - If the app crashes, we collect error information to help fix bugs. This includes the error message and stack trace but not personal data.
• Performance Data - Anonymous performance metrics like page load times to help us keep the app fast.
• Geocoding Cache - Address to coordinate mappings cached to reduce API calls and improve speed.
• Usage Tracking - Anonymized IP hash and daily lookup count for rate limiting. We do not store your actual IP address.
• Deep Reports - Deep report data and images generated for addresses you purchase reports for. Linked to your account so you can access them anytime.
• Saved Addresses - Addresses you save for quick access and travel time calculations (requires account, max 8).
• Sales Referral Attribution - If you arrive via a sales partner's referral link, we record the referral code and an anonymised hash of your IP address to attribute the referral. If you later create an account, this attribution is linked to your user ID. This data is used to calculate sales commissions and is not shared with third parties beyond the referring sales partner seeing that you are their customer.
• Sales Agent Profile - If you register as a sales partner, we store your name, email, referral code, and commission history. This data is visible to you in your sales dashboard and to administrators for payout processing.

Local Storage

Some data is stored locally in your browser and never sent to our servers:

• lotl_access_token - Authentication token for your signed-in session
• lotl_refresh_token - Token used to refresh your session without re-logging in
• lotl_token_expires - Timestamp when your session token expires
• lotl_user - Cached profile info (name, email) for display without server calls
• lotl_user_id - Your account ID for linking data to your account
• lotl_visitor_id - Anonymous visitor ID for analytics (generated randomly, not linked to you personally)
• close_enough_recent - Your last 8 address searches for quick access
• close_enough_collapsed - Which result sections you've collapsed (UI preference)
• close_enough_compare - Addresses you're comparing (up to 3, stored locally for the compare feature)
• close_enough_theme - Your light/dark mode preference
• close_enough_bonus_checked - Tracks whether we've checked for referral bonuses for your account
• close_enough_build_version - App version for cache invalidation when we deploy updates
• close_enough_sales_code - Stores the sales partner referral code if you arrived via a referral link, used for attribution tracking

You can clear this data anytime through your browser settings.

Cookies

We do not use cookies for tracking. We use localStorage to save preferences and sessionStorage during the sign-in process.

Analytics

We use our own privacy-focused analytics (Lotl Observe) to collect minimal anonymous usage data:

• Page views - Which pages are visited (no personal data)
• Anonymous identifiers - A random visitor ID to count unique visitors (not linked to your identity)
• Error reports - Technical errors for debugging (no personal data)

We do not use third-party analytics services like Google Analytics.

Third Parties

We do not sell or share your data. The only external services we use are:

• Lotl Auth for account authentication (magic link login)
• Lotl Observe for anonymous analytics and error reporting
• Stripe for web payment processing (we never see your card details)
• RevenueCat for iOS in-app purchases (manages App Store transactions)
• OpenAI API for AI-generated summaries in Deep Reports
• Google Places API for address autocomplete and geocoding
• Google Distance Matrix API for travel times and walking distances
• Google Air Quality API for air quality data
• Google Pollen API for pollen levels
• Google Elevation API for terrain analysis
• Google Street View Static API for street-level imagery
• Google Static Maps API for satellite imagery
• OpenStreetMap for cycling infrastructure data
• Atlas of Living Australia API for wildlife occurrence data
• National Public Toilet Map API for public amenities

Your Rights

You can:

• Access your data (view within the app or export from account settings)
• Correct your data (update profile in account settings)
• Delete your data (from within the app)
• Withdraw consent (sign out and stop using the service)
